The Funland Arcade
is what I remember most, because I worked there approximately 3 summers during High
School. (graduated in 76)
It was owned & operated by
Jean & Jim Stewart, man & wife, who lived for a while in Trenton-my home town
also. They were great people to work for; fair & honest. I started out
"working the floor" (giving tickets to winners & retrieving stuck
Pokerino balls, that type of thing). Eventually I worked my way up to head cashier,
got to sit behind the booth giving change out! Yahoo!
One of the funniest things
happened when I was working behind the prizes exchanging tickets for the prize
a child would pick out. There were a lot of adults that would come up there
too. One day there was a man who swore I was Joni from Happy Days (the TV show)
& he wanted my autograph. At first it was funny & we told him no, I'm not
her. But he persisted all day. It got so bad, Jean, my boss, had me hide in the back every
time the man would come in that day!
But, the Arcade was a great way
for people to cool off after being in the heat riding rides. Jim kept it especially cool
just for that reason. It was a small park but nice & fun. I visited it
later-much later, with kids of my own. I hope I have some pictures, if so I will send
them.
This site is great, & I
want to thank you for having it-it has been much enjoyed by me today & brought back
some forgotten memories. (the Skyride was stuck & Edgar Streigthau had to climb up
& do something to it.)
